Largely self taught, Barb Fedun has been an artist for over 15 years. High school art classes originally fueled the desire to learn more. Even though a career detoured her from pursuing art at that time, throughout her life and travels she has sought out and appreciated art. She works in her home studio painting from within in a somewhat abstract style often beginning with acrylic paint and finishing with oils. Her work could be called mixed media as she uses natural materials such as wasp nest in her paintings.
Barb is a member of the Painted Moose Artist Collective, Priddis Painters Group , The Leighton Centre and River Rockin' Artists. Her work is shown at the following venues: The Painted Moose, Leighton Art Centre and the Priddis View & Brew Bistro, several Art Shows in Calgary and Bragg Creek plus an open studio tour each year.
Artist Statement:
Living in the foothills of Alberta, I am inspired by the land and all in the natural world.
My Art lately, is about my own inner journey, feeling into deep soulful connections both in the natural world and with other people. Being in nature teaches me about my own inner world, the various parts of myself that I don’t always accept initially. This has brought about the series called Inner Selves - the way I see it is the parts of us within that make up who we are on the inside of our life.
The anatomical heart series is about embracing both the dark and the light within, making us more whole human beings and therefor more able to offer our gifts to this world so in need of them.
Heart based and transformation are themes throughout my art. I feel we all go through transformative changes in our lives and I hope that you feel a connection to some of the images I present.
I love this quote “We’re all just walking each other home” by Ram Dass
